If that's the case, should Obama turn the fiscal cliff into a campaign issue? Isn't it the way to go in a democracy to put it to the voters and let them kick out the recalcitrant? Even Merkel is doing this by telling the Greeks that the revote is going to be a referendum on the Euro.

That would be a terrific result EVEN if the likelyhood of winning was low. The more votes the Libertarian gets the more the sentiment shows. In my opinion a vote for Romney or Obama says nearly the same thing, "I give up and am ok with people in Government taking my money and picking who to give it too because either I don't think people are smart enough to do it themselves or I'm just tired of fighting it". They are both big government state people not individual rights people

But what about the spending. Do most greeks still want to work 30 years from 20 to 50 and then get retirement? The problem is the debt. Someone in Greece, probably started by politicians getting votes, spent a hell of a lot of money they didn't have and made promises to spend a hell of a lot more they still didn't have. This might have been started by politicians but my guess is the money had been flowing till the debt started getting called in. That's the nature of debt, it is spending today with tomorrows money. And if you want to buy something tomorrow...well you can't. "Austerity" is simply a word that integrates the result of all those previous decisions

As for the EURO situation....all I can see is lots of fog. That said I think peeps will be surprised when the CABLE comes roaring back as a serious currency for the European Continent..not just the EU.
