Will Israel allow Iran to develop a nuke?
Not a chance in hell.
What is the “over - under on timing”?
Certainly less than two years.
Does Israel have the capacity to take out concrete hardened facilities in Iran?
Yes, but this is by no means an easy task.
Explain?
It is not possible for the Israel Air force to attack without going over some other country’s border. The choices are Turkey (Iraq then Iran), Jordan (Saudi Arabia, Iraq then Iran), Syria (Iraq then Iran) or Saudi Arabia (Direct to Iran).
Which route will Israel choose?
It will go over Syria. There would be hell to pay if Israel went over Turkey or Jordan. If the Saudis “permitted” it, the Iranians would retaliate by assassinating Saudis all over the world. So it will be Syria. This is especially true as the country is in chaos today.
Will Syria attempt to shoot down Israeli aircraft flying over its territory?
Yes, it has surface-to-air capability and it also has MiG-23 and MiG-27 fighters. The Israelis will escort their bombers over Syria with their F16s. These fighters will wipe out anything that Syria puts up. The ground-based defenses are old, and no doubt, poorly manned these days.
Is it a problem if Israeli attack bombers fly over Iraqi territory?
No one gives a shit about Iraq anymore.
What happens when the Israeli bombers get over Iranian air space?
This question has no answer. If it happens, this would be the most advertized air attack in history. The Iranians have sophisticated radar and surface to air capability they bought from China. It would be a mistake to assume that an attack can be made without losses.
How would the attack take place?
Israel will use its F15s. Each plane will be armed with a single laser-guided bunker buster bomb.It will use their F16s as escorts.
As of today, Israel “officially” has only thirty of these bunker bombs. It has a total of 100 F15 attack bombers, so it needs more bombs to fully utilize their strike capability. Look for a sign on this. If the US agrees to supply more bombs, the timing is close.
What is your guess on the outcome?
It is not possible to predict what will happen in Syria. The chaos today creates the best opportunity for Israel. Who knows what can happen in six-months? Every week Iran's defenses get stronger. This will be resolved, one way or the other, in less than six-months..

Israel has the capability to fly over down the red sea around the peninsula and up the persian gulf. Simply would require prepositioning some air refueling tanker planes. Which they have.
ReplyDeleteAlso, give the Israelis one bunker buster bomb, they tear it apart, reverse-engineer, presto! They know how to make as many as they want. Israelis are smart, derp.
"Give the Israelis one bunker buster bomb, they tear it apart, reverse-engineer, presto! They know how to make as many as they want." Knowing how to make something and then setting up production to make it are two different things. As an electrical engineer supporting avionics production, I can tell you that it's not so simple to reverse engineer and quickly put something into production. It takes at least 12 months to rapid prototype a new product. The Israelis are smart. They can do it. But, not with the executive short cut stupidity that we see in today's corporations. Like a colleague of mine once said: "It takes one woman nine months to have a baby. You can't put nine women together and have a baby in one month."
DeleteWell bless your little pea pickin hearts. Guys don't you know the bombs come with the blue prints. We want them to build so we don't have to spend all that money sending them more.
DeleteThis came up. Yes, there is a "water" option as you describe. It extremely long and would require numerous re-fuelings before and after a raid.
ReplyDeleteThe element of surprise, the absence of fighter escorts and the risk of having so many planes up, with no where to land, makes this option very high risk.
Keep in mind, this is one man's opinion. The future will tell this story. I just thought his opinions were interesting.
Bruce, go back to kindergarten.
DeleteAny attack is going to hinge on the status of the AN/ALQ Series of electronic countermeasure systems used by the IAF. I'd bet the IAF is already knee deep in making full scale current upgrades to the F-15 fleet.
ReplyDeleteNot looking forward to this one. Iran may be a major spin artist on the state of their military technology development, but they do understand the concepts and application of asymmetrical warfare really well. That means "Hit the soft targets".
I wonder how detailed any "war games" have been as far as plotting out economic factors and results?
If I were BO, I'd be pushing Keystone XL and running roughshod over any opposition. I'd be telling those folks that this thing better get done over the next 12 months. I'd also be real careful about what I say right now about high gas prices, because if (when?) the balloon drops on Iran, it's going to be worse than what is happening these days.
What is the November, 2012 election going to be like if Iran goes up prior to election day and gas jumps to $6 to $7 a gallon?
What does this do to all the US corporations that have outsourced components production to different nations (think PRC; India, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, ROK, etc.). Looks like their costs structure will be rather negatively affected... :) (Too bad, soooo sad...)
"I wonder how detailed any "war games" have been as far as plotting out economic factors and results?"
ReplyDeleteWe know the US military has prepared review exercises, but it sure would be nice if either the Commerce and/or Energy departments had also done some review exercises, but that's probably way too much to hope for.
Most likely they are either brain dead, already in full campaign mode, or up to their necks in putting together crony capitalism deals to worry about something so trite as safeguarding the US economy.
But not to worry, DHS is on the job.... (ok, now we're doomed).
What are the chances Israel would use nuclear weapons to take out the Iranian buried sites, if it did not feel its conventional weapons were up to the task?
ReplyDeleteIMH retired AF Opinion. I give it 8 out of 10 that someone will pop a cap. These are very scary times.
DeleteThanks Bruce. My only question is: Why do you ever respond to comments at Zero Hedge. Life is far too short.
ReplyDeleteNot in this early stage, but don't discount that option. The deterrent factor and fear factor are too important to give-up in the initial blow; then there are the political consequences of going nuke initially -- the high risk fall-out from a divisive and massive coalescing against Israel, which the US could not mitigate. Israel must absorb the resultant retalliatory response after which there will be overwhelming concerted efforts to broker a ceasefire. But could this get out-of-hand and become unmanageable? Obviously.
ReplyDeleteyour friend missed something, although it does not change the analysis...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/feb/29/russia-upgrades-radar-station-syria-aid-iran/
One must not forget that not only Syria but also Russia are allies with Iran, as well as many others.
ReplyDeleteI dont see why would Iran even have to develop anything, they could just buy whole tactical missile from Russia which have such masterpieces as "Granit" - the very same one that hit pentagon at 9/11(without exploding intentionally, carrying disabled nuke warhead - this is very bonite information most people dont know btw). Hardly any defense is capable of stopping granit. So this is clear smoke propaganda.
I sincerely hope this move will wipe out Izrael and all jews from this earth. They will be *the* aggressors, attacking foreign territory.
Unfortunately, most of the strategic high posts as well as richest and most powerful people in US are seated by jews and/or of Izrael origin, as is well documented in "missing links" video(which btw. was made with cooperation of several entities like police reports etc.) so expect WW3 from this.
There was a good reason why Hitler hated jews, US is in fact in *very* same situation as Germany before WW2. Not many people know what was situation like before WW2 there. But unlike Germany, US citizens are brainwashed by media such as CNN that was already proved to twist information.
There are so many facts and good documents out there but people are just stupid. For example, CNN once reported on Syria conflict one day, showing streets full of people stating "demonstration against regime". At that same day, young students from my country from europe have been there in person, it was in fact celebration day and people on the streets were promoting Assad giving him support. Same evening, students saw at the hotel the very same event on CNN, claiming "unrest".
There is so much more but its useless, people are ignorant for sake of "not believing conspiracy" - ignoring some facts and clues is most stupid thing of course.
Just heed my warning Bruce and everyone who read this: As long as jews control your country(US) and US support Izrael, world is in imminent danger in regard to both military conflict and economy collapse(guess what origin is your friend Bernanke). But I bet it will be too late for everyone when they realize this.
In the mean time, Izrael continue build on illegal occupied territory and attacking Palestinians including children as in recent video I saw, but thats not much of concern for highly religious people in US is it.
Hussein, Laden, Gadaffi... picking 1 by 1 and destabilizing middle east. Make no mistake, this IS The holy crusade 2.0.
I must quote you "people are just stupid", and you are the definition of stupidity, cruelty and ignorance.
DeleteGo nuke yourself psycho!
Bruce,
DeleteYour lack of response chastising this disgusting, racist, Hitler-praising comment is reprehensible and shameful. You are silently condoning this propaganda, and you should be ashamed of yourself for not removing this hatred. If this were about blacks instead of Jews, I bet you'd have have this comment removed immediately. Disgusting all around.
Bob Barker
Propaganda is your countrys "protecting democracy" claims. Blacks are not Izraelis, they have US passport and nationality only, unlike some jews that have double nationality(US and Izrael) despite of it being against US constitution. Blacks dont send agents from africa spying on sensitive military grade information in US. Blacks did not attack US in 9/11 and neither muslims did. It was jews, most likely mossad with cooperation of rich elite including former president Bush. Jewish companies left buildings short before attack suddenly, some even at the loss of 50000$. It was all well documented with cooperation of police and other organs. You are disgusting, sir.
DeleteThere have been reports by at least one or two police officers as well as few civilians seeing people dancing and celebrating 9/11 attack on the streets, even taking pictures. Upon inspection by police, they were found to be of Izraelis nationality.
DeleteScrew you. Iran already said they will wipe Isreal. It would be stupid for them to wait You sound like you are an arab or a Hitler lover. Hiding behind Anonymous. safe way to spout your dribble... Was it syria that attacked Isreal and got their butts kicked and lost that land because of their attack?
DeleteAm from europe and caucasian. Am anonymous because am not registered here. Iran said something different at that too was misinterpreted by media(and proved), even Ron Paul said that. Am not Hitler lover, he certainly was mad, but remember if millions of Germans followed him, there had to be a good reason!
Delete"...and loss that land because of their attack?" - ?? Well if this is what they teach you at schools out there am not surprised at all now, such desinformation its not even funny.
I'm not sure what to do about this. I have to think about it.
DeleteBruce Krasting
You don't know what to do about a comment praising Hitler? Really?
DeleteWhat good is it when you know everything and anything about finance (and it seems you really do), yet you don't have enough common sense to obliterate such abhorrent hatred? The fact you have to think about whether or not to allow such a comment to stay on your blog is quite scary.
Here's what the commenter said:
DeleteThere was a good reason why Hitler hated jews,...
He said Hitler had 'good reasons' for hating Jews. He didn't 'praise' Hitler.
Toward the end of WWI, military setbacks and domestic unrest -- fomented largely by socialists and communists -- contributed to Germany's decision to seek an armistice. Jews were disproportionately represented among those fomenting unrest in Germany -- e.g. Rosa Luxembourg, Walther Rathenau, et al. The same was true in Russia of course. Hitler knew that. And from Hitler's point of view, this is one of the 'good reasons' that he did not like nor trust Jews.
Thanks for not censoring the blog Bruce.
Prepositioned Tankers ?? Who's going to let those sit around over their airspace.
ReplyDeleteWe're talking loss of huge percentage of the front line Israeli Air Force: from probable lack of refueling/range at the least. Even if the Israelis "win", they lose long term as any USA replacements will have pass the PC World of the Administration here.
Left with a) it's a bluff b) US will, and intended, help c) nukes. d) insane, suicidal, no back up attack.
Anyone know if Israel has neutron weapons ??
The Clinton admin (in its wisdom- or lack of)paid Russian Nuclear scientists to develop neutron weapons as small as a hand gun and up. Its hard to imagine that Israeli spies haven't copied or stolen the technology. Published in WSJ.
DeleteIt would seem that if Israel needs to aquire more of the bunker buster bombs. The current US administration will hold off until after the election. High gas prices won't get you reelected. Will it get out of hand? Most likely and Heaven help us.
ReplyDeleteActually, the Israeli Ra'am (F-15I)has a loaded range over 2,700 miles without refuelling. Probably more with removal of the Vulcan cannon.
ReplyDeleteA return flight to Tehran (most distant)with significant route deviation is less than 2,500 miles.
Then there are the in-country assets.....
Israel could run a serious feint in sufficient force while high-flying B2s or B1s, possibly operating from Diego Garcia, which has been done before, launched GPS guided munitions. Or maybe these munitions could be launched from submarines in the Persian Gulf or Indian Ocean as well (if technically possible). There is enough 'plausible deniability' there -- it would probably be extremely difficult to tell with precision where these things came from once they'd hit. And of course it would not put Israeli pilots in as much danger.
ReplyDeleteThere won't be an attack on Iran. Not now, not in the future. American administration won't support it. Because an attach on Iran means war between Iran and US. Iran will close Strait of Hormuz, US will sank Iranian fleet, Iran will unleash terror all over the world against American targets, America will respond by sending troops to Iran, etc. Even if the conflict is contained between Iran and Israel, Israel cannot fight without America resupplying it. So Israel will never do anything like this without getting green light from Washington. And there's no chance for this. Iran will be allowed to develop a nuclear bomb and the world will never be the same again.
ReplyDeleteBecause an attach on Iran means war between Iran and US.
DeleteThis is not the case. Neither the US or Iran would be so stupid (hard as it may be to believe that). Iran would and could make things a lot more difficult, and not just in their corner of the world. But that is far from war.
your friend missed something, although it does not change the analysis...
ReplyDeleteSyria has proven again and again to be incompetent militarily; this probably goes double right now. If necessary, the Israelis could and would simply disable the radar beforehand as part of the mission. Radar alone is not worth much.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CNg7wT-Rqw&feature=related
ReplyDeleteTrue face of USA and why Iran *should* get nukes as quickly as possible.
Iran and Syria have enough problems feeding their own people. They are muslims, and muslims want to "become martyrs"; so don't try to defray themselves from being "martyrs". It is their hope and dream to die, so let it happen. Israel can take care of themselves and their people. Iran's leaders want to die for the cause, so don't try to stop it.
DeleteI never heard them saying they want to die, except for defending own country, this is all anti-muslim propaganda and there are enough links here to prove that as well as who is truly responsible for 9/11.
DeleteCan't see Israel actually attacking directly unless & until they've completely eliminated all possibility of the US doing the "dirty work" for them.
ReplyDeleteI still believe that Israel can take out most above ground facilities with Cruise missiles. The most important is the reactor that makes plutonium which is above ground. The centrifuges are not as important in a first strike scenario. When the SHTF, then they will take out the centrifuges. One has to admit that an Israeli strike will cause a regional upheaval that will most likely cause most of the Arab countries to attack Israel except for Saudi Arabia who is very worried about Iran and its fundamental Islam who wants to overthrow the House of Saud. thus wishes that the US would do the dirty deed instead of Israel. What we have to hope for is the re-kindling of Persian Hate which goes back centuries when the Arabs and the Persians fought for hundreds of years to control the areas around Iraq which is considered Holy Land to the Sunni's.
ReplyDeleteWhat if Iran has already many A Bombs outsourced from Russia,Paquistan or India?
ReplyDeleteWhat if already manufactured them with
help from scientist from those countries?
Many times in the past agressor countries made
gross miscalculations to their regret.
Just remember, all war-plans go awry after the first shot is fired.
ReplyDeleteIsrael is playing a very dangerous game that risks its continuing existence, but it is run by arrogant fools who believe their own BS.
If Israel can't defeat Hezbollah, what makes it's leaders think it can defeat Iran?
Hopefully, Obama is not as stupid as Israeli leaders and will not back Israel in its racist, empiricist insanity.
Obama meets with Netanyahu on March 5th. I suspect he will persuade them to hold off until after the election. Obama can't have $5+ gas serve as a massive consumer tax and kill whatever shortlived recovery we are seeing and give his opponents a real issue to pound on.
ReplyDeleteIsrael will NOT attack Iran..not in 6 months..not in two years. If they do, it will have nothing to do with phantom nuclear "weapons.." It will be Iranian proxies (Hezbollah..Syria).
ReplyDeleteIsrael is first and lat dependent on a Superpower protector..today it's the US. The US knows..and this isn't even a debatable issue..that Iran not only doesn't have anything close to a nuclear device..it has NO capability to fabricate one into a deliverable warhead and NO capacity to deliver it on a missile system anywhere near target.
In fact..the biggest fabrication I've seen is this blog...
UN says on their way, CIA says no evidence. Could very well be what you state, I like the viewpoint and wish you would elaborate.
DeleteYour last comment was a little distasteful though. For what it's worth I know traders, among them myself and chief dealers that control billions in aggregate that are a big fan of this blog because it's extremely insightful and often very on the mark.
WELL SAID
DeleteAren't you going to look sooo foolish when Israel attacks Iran.
DeleteWhat I have read is that the US shipped out 55 bunker busters.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/09/23/president-obama-secretly-approved-transfer-of-bunker-buster-bombs-to-israel.html
If an attack does occur, my guess is that Israel will go in with guns a blazing. Israel will take sole credit and responsibility for successfully destroying the Iranian nuke sites, but behind the scenes the US will actually ensure the dirty work gets done with a simultaneous clandestine flight of stealth bombers that no one will ever know about. They've already gone out of their way to announce to the world that the US will not be notified in advance and will have no part in any possible action taken by Israel.
Israel has already made its own bunker buster bombs! You can see a demonstration of this three consecutive explosives in one device on DEBKA File.
DeleteWhat's with this fascination about discussing each side's weaponry, speculating on how powerful the combatants are, bragging on about hardware, how well-armed the Israeli attack dog is, etc.? Is this morbidity a peculiarly Amerikan pastime?
ReplyDeleteWho cares? ANY violence will have disastrous consequences for all. Lives will be lost. Stop playing "battleship" and start condemning anyone, from either side, who even THINKS about becoming violent.
Poor Israelis must live in perpetual fear. No wonder they have a "lets get 'em before they get us" attitude.
ReplyDeleteIf Israel already has nuclear weapons, isn't that enough of a deterrent for Iran or anybody else?
Even if Iran is developing a nuclear bomb, what's so unique about it? After all, at least 9 countries in the world already have one. So, what's the big deal?
See http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/jugglebandhi/entry/nuclear-face-off
Big deal is their oil, not a nuke.
DeleteThe big deal about Iran having the bomb is that they will use it.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it. They are downwind of Israel, as is Syria, so you're telling me that they're going to nuke Israel and live with the fallout? I don't think so. They me be fanatics (by our definition), but surely they're not that stupid.
DeleteThe ruling elite in Iran are religious nut jobs. They aren't worried about a little radiation.
DeleteAll they can see is causing chaos and bringing forth the 12 Imam.
There are videos on youtube of Ahmadinejad saying a prayer at the UN hoping for his return.
The danger of Iran is that they will be able to package a nuclear bomb into a backpack and give it to terrorists to explode in cities. Unlike others on this post, I happen to know this for sure. It's called a "tactical nuclear device." Miniaturization in various sizes has been underway for many years. That is reality and it is frightening.
DeleteFor all their bluster and insults, the Iranians are practical and smart. They are well aware that Israel has hundreds of nuclear warheads and the means to deliver them. They don't have any, and having just a couple with no credible means to deliver them isn't much of a threat, and they know it.
ReplyDeleteTheir oil is quickly becoming moot as well with all the new discoveries. Their biggest concern is their waning influence in the Mideast. Washington (Bush and Obama) wants this fight, probably to deflect attention from the mess they have and are making of the economy.

ReplyDeletehttp://www.washingtonsblog.com/2012/02/would-you-support-an-iran-war-if.html
I think some of you are forgeting the creditable threats current Iranian leaders have openly made. They have said when they have nukes they plan to initiate first strikes against THE U.S. AND ISRAEL. IRAN IS PLANNING ON USING ANY NUKES THEY GET. They think this will be something they can win for their fake God.
ReplyDeleteGo with your lies where you came from(cave), they never *ever* said that.
DeleteThe Iranians have also been working overtime on missile capabilities. They have recently demonstrated capacity to deliver payloads through missiles to all of Israel, part of the U.S. and most of Europe. One other thing that isn't being said...a 1 megaton explosion can be achieved from only about 19 lbs (1/4 th of a square foot of Plutonium). That amount can fit in a make-up case. Relatives of mine have flown model solar powered airplans from Australia to America. The distance does not protect us as it once did. Also the bombs do not have to weigh as much as the WW 2 mobel (600lbs).
ReplyDeleteYes, my guess is that jewish mossad will use it on US cities from inside and put a blame on Iran.
DeleteI didn't think Israel had a plane capable of delivering the new bunker buster bombs?

ReplyDeletechristians...
The article failed to follow through with a few more questions.
ReplyDelete1) Do the Israelis trust Obama. No.
2) Does keeping Obama in for four more years help them? No. He's already shown his distaste or hatred for Israel by suggesting they return to the 1967 borders.
3)IF they do make the deal. What's the likelihood that Obama will renege and stop them from dealing with the Iran problem. Especially when he's a lame duck?
4) Will a Republican President serve their interests better? Yes.
IMHO, it will happen when it will hurt Obama more. Waiting only weakens their position. A Republican President is also more likely to deal with the aftermath better than the bowing buffoon.
It will not be Israel taking on Iran. It will be Saudi Arabia. They have more to lose than Israel.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that Iran must be stopped. I hope that the US will act and render Iran into a stone age hole. Why the US takes so much abuse, especially from muslem countries, I do not understand it. It may be that the guy in the White House is one of them. Could you tell me also how a country that travelled on bycicles few years ago can give trillion$ to America? It's american stupidity.

ReplyDeleteLive and let live!
DeleteBoy, and we thought we in the Third World were an ignorant lot! Talking of Israel going to its pre 67 borders makes Obama (or anyone else) an israeli hater?? Giving a contra view of recent history makes one anonymous a jew hating racist?? Discussing and painting war game scenarios of how sure can Israel be of obliterating Iranian right to self defense when Israeli right to self defense including war on a nation 2500 kms away is taken for granted?? Boy, myopic xenophobia seems to be clutching at the throats of most participants on this blogsite as well as american conservative right elements -- where a directional right seems to automatically assume the moral right! May I humbly suggest a better study of historical perspectives of both sides before propagating trigger happy knee jerk opinions and conclusions.
ReplyDeleteMay we all remain at peace for the biggest victim of war and its drumbeat is always the truth -- remember the 2 Iraq wars and Afghan war.
imagine iran with nukes! if iran is this bad now, imagine how bad they will be with nukes? thats why iran cant have nukes!
ReplyDeleteWhat "bad"? They did nothing at all, NOTHING! They just want their damn power plant and wont cancel it because of some criminals dictating them what they can have and what not.
DeleteIn fact, they do have right of military response on sanctions now, because thats considered act of war and it is always *expected* by parties to have military response on it. Few days ago they agreed on *permanent* foreign control... no response? I wonder if this was even mentioned in US media.

All their bodies had been brought into one room and burned.”
“There was blood in the beds of my family, where they were killed. The bodies were all in my mother’s room, piled together and burned black. The Americans had put blankets and pillows and wood pieces they ripped from the window frames and set it all on fire.”
What Iran, look who is real criminal here.
Iran has EMP weapons, 200 mph torpedos from Russia, Fuel Air Bombs equivalent to a small A Bomb, and level 4 viruses (dooms day weapon) it is like a biological H bomb, but as the virus mutates it will eventually come back and kill the people using the weapon. I wonder how well our airplanes will work with an EMP weapon going off? The viral weapon may already be within our borders waiting the word for release.
ReplyDeleteWar is not a good activity between countries nowdays, although it might decrease the number of invasive species(humans) that the UN Agenda 21 wants to remove.
